1. KEEPING AN EYE ON IT

Location: Swedish Lapland

In the midst of winter, when temperatures drop to -30 centigrade, the reindeer of the north look for moss as this is one of the few things that still grows. It took a lot of time to gain the trust of these reindeer to get close enough to take this photo. Though it got more comfortable with me around and the fact that it was eating, it kept its eye on me.

2. SWEDISH LAPLAND

Location: Kiruna, Sweden

A historic capture of how the majestic northern lights of the arctic dance over the tent in which the Sami, the native people of Lapland, used to live, while crossing the endless snowfields with their reindeer. It is something that has to be witnessed to be understood, though this image can almost put you in there.

3. LOOK AT ME

Location: Plettenberg South Africa

Doing a walk through a game reserve, there was a moment where the dense forest opened up. Right in the middle of it a giraffe looked as surprised and curious as I did. It was as if it was a portal to a new world.

4. FREEDOM

Location: Tidal pool Kommetjie

We had been on a trip to find some cool photo locations. We found the rockpool near the lighthouse of Kommetjie and shot this topdown photo with a drone. Once you are in the water and float while looking up to the sky, it gives a sense of freedom.

5. ELEMENTAL NATURE

Location: North East Iceland

During a storm in may 2017, we had been kitesurfing on the coast. However many of the passes were closed as the winds were too strong. When it dropped a little, it was possible to cross the pass and continue our trip. It was mostly clouded and misty, with not much to see, until at one point the mist disappeared in a big gust of wind, exposing the wall of ice covered in untouched fresh snow. It was only a moment, but enough to show the elemental nature of Iceland.

6. FROZEN IN TIME

Location: Soussusvlei, Namibia

The harsh colors of midday sun casting short shadows underneath the trees frozen in time. The colors of the dunes, couples with the white clay and blackened trees together give this image an unearthly look, something that makes you want to go back.

7. GETAWAY

Location: Namibian desert near Sesriem

The Namibian desert is one of the best places to go stargazing. The sky is very dry and there are hardly lights in the vastness of the desert, allowing for stars to be visible just above the horizon. Here I wanted to show the immensity of the night sky, with the tail of the milky way visible between the two houses, a gateway to the stars.

8. THE FLYING DUTCHMAN

Location: Tableview, Cape Town

Once a year, during those windy days in summer, the best pro kite-boarders partake in a competition to do the biggest and most extreme jumps. Here Dutchman Kevin Langeree takes of his board midair at 15-20 meters to land gently on the rough seas, taking a victory in the 2018 competition.

9. A GAME OF SHADOWS

Location: Thialf, The Netherlands

One of the best ice-skaters in the world during a shoot for a commercial around the 2018 olympics. We had been shooting all day and wanted to change something and create something new, something that was unusual. Only one light and the reflections of the ice.

10.FUCK FOREVER

Location: Amsterdam

Portrait of Christijn Groeneveld, one of the best skaters in the world. During a training session he broke his back and became partly paralyzed. The doctors gave him a very slim chance to ever walk again. Now, after lots of hard work and a winner mentality he can go without the wheelchair for short periods of time.

11. FOLLOW THE RIVER

Location: Iceland

After setting up camp near the river, I hiked up the mountain to get a better look at the valley while the sun was setting. The golden hours in Iceland can be very long as the sun slowly sets and cast beautiful colors on the landscape. It allowed me to get the right composition on the mountain with the road next to the river flowing down the valley and the fine mixture of Icelandic colors.
