SERENDIPITY by Lisa Ting Chong

Lisa Ting Chong, Senior Designer and Art Director in Cape Town, started her love affair with minimalism on Instagram. Using her iPhone as a lens to her world, she started reframing the simple beauty inherent in everyday scenes, shapes and objects in 2012. Today she boasts over 15 000 loyal Instagram followers from across the world.

It’s no wonder that Lisa was selected as one of the first Instagrammers to exhibit at the Johannesburg Photo and Film Expo 2013 as part of Snapgram. She served as a judge for the @instageeksza Instagram competition and is also a member of @_rsa_minimal. In 2016 she was selected to be a judge on the Cointreau Creative Crew that aimed to find South Africa’s most creative business woman.

Interestingly, Lisa’s process is entirely serendipitous and her photos are never staged, never planned and very rarely processed with an image filter. Rather, she relies on her artistic intuition and keen eye to spot opportunities for a great photo, wherever she might find herself. In her own words: “I don’t read books, I read pictures”.
